METZELER RACETEC RR K3 (F) (B) Tire de METZELER
Feel the race, feel the road
Developed to win races on open roads, the RACETEC™ RR delivers maximum performance.
Grip in all conditions
Open road races are characterized by variable conditions. The specifications of the RACETEC™ RR compound have been developed to adapt to all these conditions. The compound incorporates a selection of polymers and resins with different carbon black contents to maximize hysteresis, even on slippery surfaces. The front of the RACETEC™ RR adapts to the micro-granularity of the asphalt, offering more grip and wear resistance to last longer on severe surfaces. The polymer blend also results in great flexibility at lower temperatures. Thanks to its versatility on various types of asphalt and at different temperatures, the choice of the front tire compound should be based on the rider's preference between better stability and precision in corner entry (K2 version) or increased grip feel (K1 version). For the rear tire, the choice of rubber depends on the friction coefficient with the asphalt (high or low severity/friction) and the asphalt temperature (with a threshold around 25/30°C). The double compound cap and base pattern of the rear RACETEC™ RR is characterized by a highly conductive strip that supports the shoulder compound, redistributing the generated heat to maintain an optimal temperature and ensure very good grip when cornering.
Precision and stability at high speed
The RACETEC™ RR features a different composite structure between the central strip and the sides of the carcass, thus responding to various stresses. Stability is crucial in road races, especially at full speed in a straight line, due to aerodynamic interference and road irregularities (manhole covers, renovations, jumps). Stability may be temporarily affected when the bike lifts slightly, but the special rayon fiber central strip structure maintains its shape even under heavy loads. This fiber dampens rebound and absorbs shocks, distributing them through the carcass. The sides, on the other hand, are designed to be rigid with a low deformation ratio, ensuring trajectory precision during long and high-speed leans as well as during high-angle cornering.
Longevity and performance uniformity
Road race sessions can exceed 240 km, which is more than three times the duration of an average circuit race. Longevity, integrity, and performance uniformity are therefore essential for winning. All RACETEC™ RR compounds have high abrasion resistance thanks to the homogeneous distribution of components in the polymer matrix, achieved through our exclusive and patented continuous mixing process. The groove arrangement on the tread minimizes wear and interrupts the forces that crush the compound, known as Schallamach wear waves. The disruptive angle of the RACETEC™ RR grooves is the result of in-depth analysis of open road races.
