JANTE MOTO Motocross rims
Wheels are the direct link between your vehicle and the ground, and whether you have two or four wheels, they're just as important. There are a number of elements that connect them. Tires, forks, rims, to name but a few. However, as the title suggests, he tends to focus more on rims. In the old days, there were old wooden designer rims. A mechanism turned them to allow the vehicle to move. Nowadays, rims are generally made of metal. In any case, they are often produced with this look. Nowadays, there are several types of rims to choose from: monobloc rims, composite rims and rims with spokes. With these three types of rim, it's only natural that you don't know which one to go for, so you need to ask yourself which one will suit you best. To do this, let's consider a number of configurations, types of motorcycle and types of use. When choosing a rim, it's important to remember that the aesthetics of the rim are not very important. It's all about practicality and making the right choice. Finally, visual appeal is not a fundamental criterion. In general, rim material plays a key role: the less iron in the material, the lighter the rim will be. These types of rims are the ones to choose if you own a sportbike or are involved in competition. It therefore seems logical that this type of rim should be slightly more expensive than other types. In this text, we'll guide you on how to choose the best rim model for your motorcycle. In this section of the motorcycle parts catalog, you'll find a wide variety of rims (motocross/moto rims, motocross motorcycle rims, etc.) and motorcycle rim rings from the best rim brands on the market. Don't hesitate, make your choice and enjoy our superb models.
Which rims for your motorcycle?
One-piece rims
This category of rims has been famous and widely used for many years. In this case, the rim is a single-piece unit. This means they are made from the same original material. The shape of this rim is therefore similar to that of a car rim. Just the thing for motorcycles that need a bit of lightness to go faster. That's why this type of rim is found on sporty and super-sporty scooters. The main advantage of this type of rim is that they are light and fairly robust. However, this type of design is not intended for motocross. Sturdiness can be a major handicap when it comes to compensating for road variability.
Spoke rims
This category of rims is designed for off-road use. Some spokes intersect to form a sort of triangle. This gives your wheels greater flexibility and resistance to impacts caused by the different surfaces of the roads you travel on. These are often made of steel. This type of rim is therefore more suited to motocross riders or any other type of motorcycle that isn't designed to run on a concrete track. This rim is made for them. They will be able to withstand the various shocks caused by vibrations. Bear in mind, however, that this type of rim will not stand up to use in more intense and/or hypersportive sports.
The different materials available for motorcycle rims
Composite rims
Rims in this category are made from a wide range of materials designed to reduce weight. The rim can be made from materials such as carbon, for example, or magnesium. Thanks to their low weight, rims are ideal for everyday sports use. The fact that they are lightweight will give your bike optimum performance. The advantage of these materials is above all their low weight and good looks. Nevertheless, you should be aware that this type of rim is not yet very popular. You should also be aware that this type of rim is still quite expensive. Composite rims should become more popular and less expensive in the near future.
Rims made of steel
This type of rim is one of the most classic. The steel used to manufacture these rims is also known as sheet metal. It has the advantage of being cheap and fairly easy to find for sale. It's very robust and will last for years. But bear in mind that this type of rim can easily oxidize, which is its drawback. This is because sheet metal is actually a direct derivative of metal. Apart from that, the fairly high weight has to be taken into account. Because of all these features, it's quite common for such rims to be less than ideal for sport bikes and use on all types of surfaces. Classic use on basic roads remains the best option.
Rims made of aluminum
This last category of materials can be considered ideal for almost all types of use. Aluminum rims are light enough for both sporty use and city driving. They can be adapted to any situation. The use of roadsters cannot be ruled out. The advantage of the latter is their attractive price. Aluminum wheels are therefore accessible to the greatest number of people. I must add that it's a good combination of quality and price. Bear in mind, however, that this type of material can wear out fairly quickly, especially if it lacks maintenance.
What are the most important features for choosing the right rims?
Weight
This configuration is not to be neglected for people with sport bikes. The weight must be light enough to ensure speed and performance. Aluminum or composite rims are the ideal solution in this case. Generally speaking, aluminum rims weigh just over 15 kg, while composite rims weigh less than 7 kg. Exceeding this weight will make the turbine too heavy and may affect the bike's performance during the race. Which, of course, you don't want to happen. That's why we recommend investing in composite rims if you want to gain in performance.
Service life
It's quite understandable that when you choose a rim for your motorcycle, you want to keep them for as long as possible. It would be a pity to replace them 6 months after purchase. What's more, it's important to know that the type of rim you should select is a spoked rim if you don't want strength, but durability. Especially if you're riding on rough, uneven roads. On the other hand, if you're a sportier rider, choose a rim made of composite, as it won't oxidize like aluminum rims.
The price
Motorcycle rims are considerably less expensive than car rims. This is particularly true of sheet metal and similar materials such as aluminum, all of which are cheaper for motorcycles. By way of comparison, car rims cost between 50 and 900 euros, depending on wheel size and dimensions. For motorcycles, they range from 80 to 400 euros. However, changing to another material, such as composites, can cost even more, reaching €2,000. This means that for basic use, it's worth opting for the cheapest steel rim in the whole range. Of course, it all depends on your preferences and how you use your bike.
How do you maintain your rims to keep them looking their best for as long as possible?
Cleaning and maintenance is a necessary step in prolonging the life of aluminum rims. This process removes impurities and keeps your rims looking their best. As well as making them more beautiful, you'll be sure to keep them on your bike even longer. By taking good care of your rims, you'll be able to detect the slightest problem and neutralize it quickly.
