Key switch

Location : The key switch is usually located in an accessible place on the motorcycle, often on the right-hand side of the handlebars. It may be integrated into the ignition switch housing.

Operation: The key switch is fitted with a locking cylinder that can be operated by a corresponding key. When a valid key is inserted and turned in the cylinder, it enables the switch mechanism to activate, allowing electric current to flow through the motorcycle's electrical system.

Key switch positions :

Off: In this position, the motorcycle is completely switched off, and no current is supplied to the engine or other electronic components.
On: This position activates the electrical circuits, enabling the instrument panel and other electrical devices to be switched on, but the engine is not started.
Start: Turning the key further towards this position activates the starter, and the engine is started.
Security: Some key switches include additional security functions, such as the "Lock" position, which locks the steering and prevents the motorcycle from being moved without the key.

Electronic security systems: Some motorcycle models can be fitted with electronic security systems integrated into the key switch, such as electronic chips in the key (immobilizers).
