Low engine
The lower part of a motorcycle engine, also known as the engine block, comprises the components below the cylinder and crankcase. Here's a general description of the main components of a motorcycle lower engine:
Crankcase: This is the outer casing containing the entire lower engine. It is generally made of cast aluminum to ensure both strength and lightness.
Cylinder: Houses the piston and piston rings. The cylinder is the part of the engine where the explosion of the air-fuel mixture takes place, generating the motive force.
Piston: A moving component inside the cylinder that moves up and down in response to fuel combustion. It is usually connected to a connecting rod.
Connecting rod: Connects the piston to the crankshaft. The connecting rod converts the linear movement of the piston into a rotary motion that is transmitted to the crankshaft.
Crankshaft: This is the central element of the lower engine, transforming the reciprocating motion of the piston into a rotary motion that is transmitted to the transmission and rear wheel.
Transmission housing: Houses the gearbox gears and transmits engine power to the rear wheel.
Clutch: Located between the engine and the gearbox, the clutch enables the engine to be disengaged from the transmission to change gear or stop the motorcycle without switching off the engine.
Lubrication system: Includes oil pump, oil channels and oil sump to ensure lubrication of all moving parts and reduce wear.
Cooling system: Some low-engine models are equipped with a radiator, water pump and pipes to regulate engine temperature.
Flywheel or rotor: Generally located on the side of the crankshaft, it powers the ignition system by producing electricity when it turns.
