Oil sump plug
The oil sump plug is a part located on the lower crankcase of a motorcycle (or vehicle) engine, and is used to close the access hole to the oil sump. It performs several important functions:
Sealing the oil sump: The oil sump cap is screwed into the sump opening to hermetically seal the engine's oil system.
Maintain Pressure: Helps maintain pressure in the oil pan, which is essential to ensure proper oil circulation in the engine.
Debris Protection: The cap protects the oil sump from debris, dirt and moisture that could damage the oil system.
Ease of oil change: In many cases, the oil sump cap is fitted with a rubber seal and can be removed to allow oil change during engine maintenance.
Oil level dipstick: Some oil sump plugs feature an integrated oil level dipstick, enabling the vehicle owner to quickly check the oil level without having to remove the plug.
It is important to use a suitable replacement oil sump cap to ensure a proper seal and avoid oil leaks. When servicing the engine, particularly when changing the oil, it is advisable to replace the plug gasket to ensure optimum sealing.
Please note that oil sump cap specifications may vary according to motorcycle make and model. It is therefore advisable to refer to the motorcycle owner's manual or consult a professional to ensure the correct plug is used.
