LED BAR LED bars for quad, 4x4, SSV...
LED bars, also known as LED light strips, are particularly useful for illuminating the edges of trails or long straight roads, especially at night or when daylight is insufficient. These lighting devices help you spot wild animals from a distance and avoid collisions that are often serious and costly. Another advantage of led bars is that they consume less energy and last longer than halogen and long-range Xenon lighting.
The different types of led bar
LED bars can be classified according to 2 main characteristics: their shape and size.
Straight or curved: the 2 main shapes of light bars
Straight LED bars are the most common shape. Straight bars can be fitted to all types of vehicle, and offer the advantage of a wider choice of models than curved bars. There are also curved LED bars with a wider beam, capable of illuminating more of the edges of a 4x4, Quad or SSV (Side by Side Vehicle). The curved shape of a 4X4 LED bar, a quad LED bar or an SSV LED bar is perfectly suited to the ergonomics of these vehicles. In the light bar category, we can also mention the round spotlight for motocross or quad bikes. They offer powerful illumination and low energy consumption compared with traditional lighting.
LED light bar sizes
There's a wide choice of sizes available, from the 10 cm mini LED bar to the 1.3 meter LED strip.
- The mini LED bar , with a maximum power of 8 to 10 LEDs, is generally used to complement other lighting.
- Low-profile LED bar: this light bar is the most widely used on roads. Less than 50 cm long, it is usually attached to the vehicle's grille to provide additional forward-facing illumination.
- Full-size LED bar: this LED light features 2 or 3 rows of LEDs and is over 50 cm long. It can be installed in the vehicle whenever a large amount of light is required.
Features to consider when choosing your LED bar
Lumens
Lumens are a unit of measurement used to assess the amount of light emitted. The more lumens your LED bar has, the better the lighting will be.
Type of light beam
Generally speaking, there are 3 types of beam for long-range lighting:
- Spotlights, which emit light widthways. Floodlights are ideal for roads with potential hazards, such as animal incursions. A wide beam (40°) is ideal for track driving, and extra wide (60 to 90°) for overcoming obstacles.
- Spotlights project the light lengthways, allowing you to see very far. The spotlight is recommended for straight roads with few obstacles.
- Bars that combine the two beams (spotlight and spotlight) for both wide-beam and long-range illumination.
IP rating
This criterion is essential, as it tells you how well your LED bar is protected against the elements. The IP rating or classification comprises 2 digits. The first refers to the degree of resistance to various intrusions such as dust, dirt, mud, insects etc.. It ranges from 0 to 6. A rating of 6 being the highest for a perfectly hermetic bar. The second number indicates the degree of water resistance. It ranges from 0 to 9. A bar rated 0 will simply withstand drops of water, while one rated 9 will withstand immersion in water more than a meter deep. To be on the safe side, don't buy a lighting fixture with a rating lower than IP67.
Watts
This measurement indicates power, i.e. the amount of energy required for the LED bar to operate efficiently. The higher the watts, the more powerful the light. Combine the wattage value with the lumen value to obtain the best possible luminosity.
The housing
The casing protects the LED bar from impact. The best lights are enclosed in an aluminum case. This material is reputed to be the strongest and most durable. In particular, aluminum is much stronger and more efficient than a plastic housing. AA 6063 housings also help to cool the bar for long periods of use.
Where to install an LED bar
This lighting device can be installed either on the top of the vehicle or on the bumper between the headlights. By placing the bar on top, you'll obtain a more diffused luminous flux, but you'll benefit from visibility over a longer range. TONNYCAT offers you a selection of the best quad, 4X4 or SSV led bars. Ultra-powerful and reliable, all these led bars are guaranteed. They meet the highest standards for waterproofing and lighting, and are designed to ensure your safety in difficult off-road situations. You'll also find mounting and connection accessories, as well as all the wiring you need to install your led bars.
