The "cross" type of tire is widely used on 450cc sport quads such as the YFZ450, YFZ450-R, LTR450, KFX450 and KTM450, as well as 250, 350, 700 and 400 recreational quads like the 250 RAPTOR, 350 RAPTOR and 400 LTZ.
A tire designed for quad racing must be light and strong. Unfortunately, the 2 are not really compatible.
If a tire is strong, it's because it's thick and reinforced. Thickness is expressed in number of plies, i.e. the number of layers of material (rubber).
For this type of tire, we can find 2-ply, 4-ply or 6-ply. The nomenclature for the number of plies is, for example: 2PR TL for a 2-ply tire.
In 2-ply, you'll find the legendary MAXXIS RAZR MX :
MAXXIS RAZR MX M931 FRONT TIRE 20x6-10 or 21x7-10
REAR TIRE MAXXIS RAZR MX M932 18x10-8 or 20x11-9
TIRE PACK MAXXIS RAZR MX 20x6-10 ET 18x10-8
MAXXIS RAZR MX TIRE PACK 21x7-10 AND 20x11-9
Since its debut, the Maxxis RAZR has given TT Cross racing a whole new image.
It is one of the lightest but still not very resistant to punctures as it only has 2 plies ( 2PR TL ).
As this tire is designed for dry terrain on cross-country tracks, there's a certain logic to it: you're unlikely to come across sharp stones on this type of track.
Be careful, though: if it rains, you'll have to put on the MAXXIS M933 RAZR 2, which is a little higher at the front and rear (21, 22 or even 23 vs. 20 for the M931), but above all it's made of 6-ply (6PR TL)! so it's ultra-resistant to punctures !
You'll need 9-inch rims for the rear.
Maxxis RAZR 2: the benchmark for sport tires on difficult terrain, wet or dry.
Aggressive tread pattern and slightly convex center section.
Thicker studs for more grip, longer.
Improves steering precision and handling.
MAXXIS FRONT RAZR 2 M933 21x7-10 or 22x7-10 or 23x7-10
MAXXIS REAR RAZR 2 M934 20x11-9 or 22x11-9

Let's come back to the cross-country tire. This tire must be light above all else, but also resistant to deformation and directional.
For the front, it has to keep you on course even in high-speed corners! And for the rear, it has to propel you at the start and ensure that you're propelled efficiently throughout your run, especially when exiting the inside of corners! In short, you need an ultra-efficient tire for brief sports use.
The GOLDSPEED SX tire has been the benchmark for decades:
GOLDSPEED SX front tire 20x6-10
GOLDSPEED SX 18x10-8 rear tire
The benchmark for cross-country riders. A lightweight, ultra-precise tire
4-ply rubber (hard rubber with yellow GOLDSPEED logo) - road-approved
GOLDSPEED is very involved in the "QUADS SPORTS" competition and offers several different types of rubber for the same tire: hard rubber: yellow logo or medium rubber: blue logo. We use medium rubber in competition. They will grip perfectly even on wet terrain, but will quickly wear out on dry, stony ground. Harder rubber is recommended on dry terrain. Generally speaking, this type of rubber is more durable.
TONNYCAT also offers a perfect copy at a very attractive price!
We've chosen to offer it in 6-PLY for even greater resistance, so you can use it in cross-country races on dry terrain!

A QUICK REMINDER OF TIRE SIZES:
There are several tire sizes for quads.
Always choose tire sizes that match the wheel diameter.
However, sizes can be modified slightly if you wish to fit wider or taller tires, as shown in the table below.
Example: For a 20x10-9 size, you can fit a 22x11-9 (i.e. 2 inches higher and 1 inch wider) or a 20x11-9 (1 inch wider).
